FIATA and TT Club Announce the Regional Winners of the 2017 Young International Freight Forwarder of

TT Club, the leading international freight insurer, which is proud to continue the sponsorship of the 19-years old FIATA’s Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award, and FIATA, the International Association of Freight Forwarders’ Federations, both recognise the succession challenges facing many areas of the global industry. They consequently recognise the need to invest in the development and education of young logistics professionals.

The YIFFYA competition is intended to stimulate emulation and competition in this area and provides opportunities for all candidates, 17 of them this year, to demonstrate and develop their knowledge of the industry. The competition remains both challenging and rewarding: each candidate is required to submit a 6,000 word dissertation outlining a complex import and export shipment in which he or she has been personally involved.

The regional finalists will travel to FIATA's World Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (4th - 8th of October 2017) in order to present their dissertations to the Award’s Steering Committee and compete for the overall International Award. The FIATA World Congress provides each of them with invaluable learning and networking opportunities. The overall winner of the International Award will receive the distinguished award, which includes two one-week TT Club training sessions at one of its regional headquarters in London, New Jersey or Hong Kong. The winner also receives one year’s subscription to the industry publication, International Transport Journal (ITJ), as well as the FIATA Review. The winners also receive other benefits from FIATA.

The four regional finalists who embraced the challenge and were selected this year from the 17 young professionals representing their respective FIATA association members are:

Tinasche Chiwanza, Zimbabwe (SFAAZ), representing Region Africa Middle East;

Bradley Davis, Canada (CIFFA), representing Region Americas;

Nian Wan, China (CIFA), representing Region Asia Pacific;

Nina Brose, Germany (DSLV), representing Region Europe;

The high standard dissertation entries drew from a wide range of topics and provided a captivating experience for the nine-strong judging panel, confronted with the difficulty to select the four regional finalists among the excellent contenders. The level of knowledge and the dedication demonstrated by the candidates this year was humbling; the future of these passionate individuals must be embraced to safeguard a bright future for our industry.

Cargoes featured in this year’s dissertations included Zoological Animals, Olympic Team Equipment, Agricultural Chemicals, Wine and Raw Tea. The diversity and complexity of the candidates’ work showed the challenging processes required by global supply chains and the logistics skills these require.

Mike Yarwood, TT Club’s Loss Prevention Executive and Chair of the Award Steering Committee, commented: “From a bewildering, yet highly professional array of entries the YIFFYA judging panel selected a shortlist of four regional finalists. We greatly appreciate the continued support of the National Associations in submitting their candidate to partake in what we feel is a highly valuable competition. Whilst we celebrate the four finalists, we must congratulate all 17 candidates for their achievements in this year’s competition.”

“These four regional winners are setting the standard for innovation and creativity in our industry,” said Thomas Sim, Chairman of FIATA’s Advisory Body Vocational Training. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the high quality entries we received this year.”
